Ethics
Buddhist traditions do not directly reflect on the good life or how to take meaningful action in the world, as in the Western tradition of ethics. Therefore discussions on ‘Buddhist Ethics’ are sometimes contested and often comparative. However, Buddhism has strong traditions of precepts, highly organized standards of discipline for monastic and lay communities, a wealth of moral teachings directly from the Buddha, and many teachings on “right” action, speech, livelihood and so forth. In the ‘Ethics’ category, you will find both native Buddhist ethical reflection, as well as comparative commentary upon it.
