Pilgrimage and Tourism

Journeying to sacred Buddhist sites has had a long history throughout Asia. Chinese monks are known for their travels to India where they would walk the path of the Buddha, from the place of his birth to Deer Park where he delivered the first turning of the wheel of the Dharma. And pilgrimage has played an important role in other Buddhist countries, notably Japan with many pilgrimage circuits to several sacred mountains.
